Our History

The Less Tears...More Years™ dedication to Education and Awareness, Road Safety, and Driver Education Reform began to grow in numbers as the Campaign began to visit School Boards, City Councils, Civic and Professional Organizations in an effort to spread the word that approximately 6000 teens loose their lives in car crashes every year, and approximately 500 of those tragic deaths occur to Texas teens. The LTMY team visited with Texas State Representative Larry Phillps (Sherman) to get his help with Driver Education Reform. Representative Phillips authored House Bill 339 which called for stricter laws pertaining to the way we train our new drivers. Then LTMY President, Brett Arterburn and Current LTMY President, Phil Johnson both testified in front of the House Transportation and Education Committees as well as the Senate Administration Committee to urge their support. Arterburn and Johnson then travelled to Austin on May 29, 2009 to witness the passage of HB339. Their final trip to pertaining to HB339 was June 19, 2009 when they were invited by Representative Phillips to witness Texas Governor Rick Perry sign HB339, also named "The Less Tears...More Years Act" into law.
